“He’s got fire in his belly!”
At six years old, John packed up his plastic suitcase with what he believed were life’s essentials and set off for parts unknown. He didn’t make it far—just up the block—but the moment stuck. Watching him go, his dad shook his head and said, “John’s got fire in his belly…he’s going places.”
Maybe not that day—but the spark was real.
That same drive carried John through a lifelong journey of building, creating, and problem-solving. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Food Science and went on to a nearly 40-year career in the food industry, working with companies like Kraft Foods, Tip Top Ice Cream in New Zealand, So Delicious Dairy Free, and Dave’s Killer Bread.
But the creative spark never left.
After retiring from the corporate world, John decided it was time to re-fire that energy—this time with his hands. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into something more as people began asking, “Can you make this?”
The answer was, and still is: “Yeah, sure!”
Firebelly Studio was born from that mindset—where curiosity, craftsmanship, and a willingness to take on the unexpected come together to create custom wood and epoxy furniture, art, and functional pieces that are truly one of a kind.
